Wisconsin Tourism Relief to Accelerate Vitality and Economic Lift (TRAVEL) stimulus grant program

The application period is now closed and awards for the TRAVEL grants have been announced. There will be no new application period for this funding. The goal of the Wisconsin TRAVEL Stimulus Grant Program is to aid the recovery for local entities that promote tourism, which is one of Wisconsin’s largest industries and was hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Additional Federal Grant Opportunities Related to COVID-19

Several additional grant opportunities in support of the tourism industry were recently announced:

COVID-19 We're All in For Restaurant Grants: Grants totaling up to $45 million available.

  • Unlike previous We’re All In grants, businesses will not have to apply for the grants, but will be identified and contacted directly by the Department of Revenue (DOR) based on the businesses’ state tax records.
  • The program is targeted at restaurants and other targeted small businesses throughout Wisconsin that, as gathering places, have been challenged from the beginning of the pandemic, and are incredibly important employers and community members.
  • The program will target businesses with annual revenues of more than $1 million and less than $7 million, while previous state grant programs have focused on businesses with annual revenues of less than $1 million.

COVID-19 Lodging Property Grant Program: Grants totaling up to $20 million available.

  • The Department of Administration’s review of hundreds of Lodging Grant Program applications has determined that a significant number failed to submit all information required for payment consideration. Therefore, the Department hereby directs all applicants to resubmit an application using the instructions provided by DOA via email.
  • Application deadline: 12:00 p.m. CST on Wednesday, November 18, 2020
  • Support Wisconsin hotel and lodging facility owners whose businesses have been affected by COVID-19.

COVID-19 Movie Theater Grant Program: Grants totaling up to $10 million available.

  • Application deadline: October 29, 2:00pm
  • Aids Wisconsin movie theater owners and operators whose operations have been negatively affected by COVID-19. Grant details and application is available here.

COVID-19 Lodging Property Grant Program: Grants totaling up to $20 million available.

  • Application deadline: October 29, 2:00pm
  • Support Wisconsin hotel and lodging facility owners whose businesses have been affected by COVID-19. Grant details and application is available here.

COVID-19 Live Music and Entertainment Venue Grant Program: Grants totaling up to $15 million available.

  • Application deadline: October 29, 2:00pm
  • Assists Wisconsin’s live music and entertainment venues and operators whose operations have been negatively affected by COVID-19. Grant details and application is available here.

COVID-19 We’re All In Small Business Grants: An additional $50 million now available.

  • Applications will be accepted between 8:00 a.m. on Monday, October 19 and ending at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, November 2.
  • Helps small businesses get back on their feet as they re-emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic and prioritizes businesses most impacted by the pandemic including restaurants and taverns. Grant details and application is available here.

COVID-19 Cultural Organization Grant Program: Grants totaling up to $15 million available.

  • This grant application period has closed.
  • Assists cultural organizations whose operations have been negatively affected by COVID-19. Grant details available here

The Joint Effort Marketing Grant Program offers funding and guidance to make a promotion or event come to fruition. The grant reimburses Wisconsin non-profit organizations for qualified advertising costs.  There are five unique categories of JEM grant to fit an organization’s needs.

The Tourist Information Center (TIC) Grant Program is open to non-profit tourism organizations, municipalities or Native American tribes who operate a regional tourist information center.

The Meetings Mean Business (MMB) Grant Program helps potential Wisconsin destinations by providing financial assistance for facility costs or host destination expenses as they bid for regional and national meetings or conventions.
