Acting Secretary Anne Sayers
Acting Secretary Anne Sayers is an experienced organizational administrator and marketing professional who has served in leadership roles with a variety of nonprofit organizations for more than two decades.
Sayers was named Acting Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Tourism in December 2020 after serving as Deputy Secretary since 2019. Tourism combines her love for marketing, organizational management, and all things Wisconsin. In her two years as Deputy Secretary, Sayers drew upon her experience in bipartisan advocacy for Wisconsin’s outdoors by leading the creation of the Office of Outdoor Recreation. Additionally, Sayers established an industry-engaged strategic plan; restructured the Department’s advisory committees, including the creation of two new committees prioritizing diversity and inclusion and the advancement of the outdoor recreation industry; and restructured the operational processes and organization of the Department to enable talent attraction, production excellence, and goal attainment.
An Alaskan by way of Oklahoma and Oregon, Sayers came to Wisconsin to attend UW-Madison. After earning degrees in International Relations, Geography, and Environmental Studies, Sayers chose to make Wisconsin her permanent home.
In addition to marketing and communications, Sayers’ strength is keeping organizations on mission, on budget, and on brand, which led her to start her own consulting firm, Oh, Hello LLC. She has authored an award-winning annual report, managed a million-dollar social media campaign, been a national spokesperson for the Great Lakes, and even helped design a “muppet” with The Jim Henson Company.
Anne sits on the Board of Directors for Taliesin Preservation, UW-Madison’s Nelson Institute, and Wisconsin State Fair Park. She and her family live in Cross Plains where they spend their free time enjoying local restaurants, hiking public trails, and supporting independent music.
