About the Department

About the Department

Tourism is one of Wisconsin’s leading industries, deeply rooted in our incredible natural resources, world-class cities and towns, affordable and exciting attractions, and most importantly, our warm hospitality. We were first commissioned as a cabinet-level department in 1996 and have been enthusiastically promoting our state ever since. The success of our department is judged in large measure by traveler spending, and in the past two years we have worked in collaboration with the statewide tourism industry to increase traveler spending over $2 billion.

Our website is a great starting point to learn more about the Department of Tourism’s initiatives, activities, and advisors. Team Tourism looks forward to working with Governor Walker, the Governor's Council on Tourism and our industry partners to leverage everything great about Wisconsin in order to grow the economy and enhance our quality of life.
